New Legacy Limited

I got my 2016 Legacy three days ago. I couldn't stop smiling on the 30-mile drive home. But with all its electronics, touch screen, Eyesight, everything... I'm overwhelmed! I'm almost afraid to drive the thing because there's so much to learn and to pay attention to. In the operating manual there are Warnings! all over the place. I may have to take it outside into my driveway, turn the ACC on, and just play with everything so I can learn while I'm *not* driving. I'm on chapter 3 of the manual.... But there is also the 300-page Starlink manual and the Eyesight manual to go through, too.

I have a lot to discover. Today I drove in the rain and found the wipers to be silent. I endured 11 years of my two Accords' obnoxious flip-flop-flip-flop. And I endured 2-1/2 years of the 2013 Accord's miserable sound system. No more. In a couple months, maybe less, I'll get to test it in snow.

There should be a "Subaru Store" where I can go and take a class. ;-) At least the salesmen (and sales manager) at my dealership offered any help I might need, any time. I'm loving the car and liking the dealership (so far), too.

Probably best to just figure out which features are most important in day-to-day operation and concentrate on learning them first and then tackle the others, like navigation and 'smart cruise' as you need them. My understanding is that Starlink has an overwhelming number of options, some of them overlapping and redundant so that learning it might really take all

300 pages. I'm envious of you though -- I can't justify buying a new one until my '08 has at least ten years on it.

Thanks, John -- Yeah, you're right -- I'm figuring to learn what I can for basic driving, and the need to learn the rest will come as it does. I'm so impressed with this car, so far, that maybe I'LL be keeping mine 10 years. ;-)

I did sign up for the entire Starlink package. I think it costs $149/year and includes drive up champagne and caviar, or something like that.... I mean, if I get into trouble I can press an overhead button and talk with someone who'll send help. Or if the system detects I'm in a crash, it'll try to reach me to find out if I'm conscious. Or if the car is stolen I can send for help via my My Subaru app, and the car has a built-in GPS so the "authorities" can find it. For the first year, though, it cost $49. I figure I'll be able to drop AAA now, and the $149 annual fee will drop to, what, $95? Of course, my mileage may vary.

Howard, does StarLink replace everything that AAA offers? For example, you'll have to change insurance companies if you drop AAA.

Patty, to make sure we're talking about the same service, this is AAA = American Automobile Association. My insurance is not with them. I've used them only for maps, Tourbooks, and road service. AAA also provides discounts and stuff, and is also a travel agency.

Starlink would replace only AAA's road service. Even so, the Subaru 3 year/36,000 mile warranty provides road service. The $149 annual fee I referred to is for the full Starlink package. I currently pay something like $53 per year for AAA coverage.

Okay, not a problem, then.
