I smell the clutch burned when backing up a hill. This happened a few times. Should I change the transmission oil? This is for a 2002 manual shift WRX. Sometimes it has the cold clutch shudder, but I haven't demanded a repair yet.
should I change gear oil after burning the clutch (2002 wrx)?

Not because of the clutch smell. The clutch runs dry, outside of the transmission case, and burning the clutch would not affect the transmission oil.
And don't worry about the stink, they all smell after a bit of slipping
