timing 92 loyale 1.8

I just replaced the timing belts on our 92 Loyale 1.8 had a few problems but got it done. When the car died the first thing I did was pull the distributer cap because I had a problem with the screw coming out of the rotor once before so I thought that might be the problem.The screw was in the rotor but it wasn?t turning so I thought maybe the gear on the shaft had broken or come loose. I pulled the distributor but everything looked OK. Thats when I found the broken timing belt. Anyway got everything fixed put back together but now I need to set the timing.My Chilton manual says to make sure the idle switch is ON (?) and to connect the green test mode connector which I can?t find anywhere. They?re are three connector?s behind the fuse panel white,pink,green but all three are already connected.I don?t think these are the one I?m looking for but I can?t find another green connector. Can anyone tell me what I?m driving myself crazy looking for. The car is running but it?s kind of sluggish. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Unplug the ECU and pull the wiring harness out as far as you can. Look in the wiring bundle and you should find the green and black connecters. I say should because sometimes these connecters are located under the hood over by the master brake cylinder. Forget about worrying about that switch. Just warm the engine before sitting the timing.

Idle switch is part of the throttle position sensor. If memory serves you want continuity on the first two terminals until the throttle opens more than 2.5 degrees and open circuit after that. Use a .055" feeler gauge at the throttle stop screw to check it. Do *NOT* adjust the throttle stop screw. These are adjusted at the factory and anchored with a little dot of white paint. If the idle switch needs adjustment loosen the two screws holding the TPS and rotate it slightly.

Green connectors may be pushed up above the ecm under the dash but on my 92 loyale they were in the engine compartment where the wiring harness comes through the firewall near the wiper motor. Remember to disconnect them when you're done setting the timing. Connecting them enables the stored trouble code read out, (a flashing LED on the ecm itself), but *disables* the spark advance. Leaving them connected will make your car run kind of sluggish. :-)
