Tire sizes on Legacy LSi Sedan

I have a 1996 Legacy LSi sedan, much like the LS and L sedans. It normaly takes 205/55R16 size tires. I have a lead on some winter tires, but they are 225/55R16. This would cause them to be slightly wider and taller. I was wondering if anyone has experience with various tire on their Legacies and know how much room I have to work with in the wheel wells. They appear to have room for this size of tire, but my concern would be on big bumps and things that may make the tires run the splash guards.

I know some cautious people who always say to use OEM sizes and parts, but really, there is some flexibiltiy, and what I want to know is how much. I called my local dealership and they said if I visually compare the tire and it looks to fit fine, then it should be fine.

Thanks, Chris

They're 20 mm or about 3/4 inch wider and also little taller and will almost surely rub wheel opening and or suspension components.

That's what I expected. I'm going to purchase the tires regardless because they are such a good deal that I know I can resell them for some extra money.

I have leads on closer matching tires.

Thanks, Chris
