A/C problem/question

Sep 26, 2003 2 Replies

My 98 Astro A/C is suddenly not working. The compressor is cycling and there appears to be refrigerant in the system but no cool air. I don't have gauges to see what the pressures are. The accumulator feels pretty warm but the inlet of the evaporator is just slightly cooler. Any guesses what the problem could be before I take it in? Plugged orifice? Bad compressor? Both?

Thanks...

Sounds like you are low on refrigerant. A plugged o-tube would drive high side psi so hi that the hi side psi switch would kick in to disable system. The warm inlet is another clue. Add some 134 and see what happens.

Thanks for the pointer. It happened pretty fast...over just a couple days...so I wonder if it isn't a big leak somewhere. It was working fine a couple days ago. Anyway, I'll give it a shot...
