Bad brakes

Make sure your brake pads are not worn out... you may be hearing the shims scrape against the rotor, or the little piece of metal that squeaks telling you it is time to change the pads... there are also several other possibilities relating to the suspension system; but if you are pretty sure it is your brakes, the it should be your pads. Does it happen when you brake? Or just randomly?

I'm getting a metal type noise coming from the drivers side rear tire of my 2002 honda van, but it's not all the time. What can be the problem?

If it is intermittent, as you suggest, I would suspect a brake related problem.
