Carfax doesn't always offer all the facts

I could have told you that.

I currently own a 1986 Chevy van (56,000kms). It was bought new by my Grandfather. At about two years he rolled it over and the insurance company wrote it off. My uncles did a great job putting it back together and I eventually inherited it.

When I was looking for my last car I tried a CarFax subscription and for laughs I did a search on my van. NOTHING but the registration showed up. I tried a few more cars and same thing.

Needless to say I got my money back.

Of course, Carfax cannot report damage or repair which is done by people or companies which do not report the problem.

You would think that insurance company information would be there, but obviously this is not always the case.

Carfax is only the "first step" in validating the history of a car. And, my friend, there are lots of cars out there after Katrina, Rita, and Ike that have a really bad history.

If possible, one might want to contact the previous owners and see what they have to say. They have nothing to lose by talking to you. (usually)
