I have a '99 Cavalier. It has one of those wrap-around muffler hangers, which had rotted out. The replacement has a bent tang on the lower side of the strap.
x __________ ... x / --------/ upper strap x (use fixed-pitch font) tang | x |___x____ xxxxx \ lower strap xxxxx \_________ ... (bolt)
It sort of looks like this tang is supposed to butt against the flat on the upper side of the strap, and limit how far you can tighten the clamp. In this case, it slips past, rather than butting. Is it supposed to? I can put a spacer in, if that's what it needs. It's such an odd thing - like, if they wanted it to butt, why not just make it so it did?
TIA, George
