It's the recirc. door actuator. "Mode actuator", I think GM calls it in the factory service manual. That particular actuator does not have a position feedback to the controller like the temp. acutator. It's commanded to run for 10 seconds by a time delay whenever the vehicle is powered up or down. If you're hearing it when you turn the key on and after you turn it off, that's the problem. It'll also run full travel and pop if you hit the recirc. button. Got a '93 Chev. 3/4 ton truck that had the same problem. What happens is the stop inside the actuator is broken, and it runs full travel before the 10 seconds has elapsed. Since the recirc door is spring loaded, it causes it to pop off the end of the screw in the actuator. The instructions for changing it are in the factory service manual. Hope this helps.
