You can switch the ignition OFF, without going to the LOCK position. The key stays in, the ignition shuts down.
I want the electrics off, so I can just leave it in neutral indefinitely.

What if you first turn the key off and _then_ put the gear in neutral? Automatic transmissions I've seen have had a button somewhere that let the "stick" to move even without key in ignition.

Not this one: key on & brake applied to shift; once shifted, you can't turn the key to off. I have vague memories of hearing that there's some way to override this. Oh well.

Pull the trim around the shifter, there should be an interlock defeat control located near the shift gate.
Thanks. My immediate problem is taken care of by now. But, when I get a little time alone with the car, I'll check this out.
