Gasket Question

Hi,

I am installing a supercharger in my car that is a replacement for the intake manifold.

It is a 75 pound part that has to be moved into place over a pair of gaskets (V8) on the heads. The problem is I am kind of paranoid that the new intake is going to move the gaskets around while I and a friend are moving the new intake + supercharger into place.

Is there anything I can do to hold these gaskets in place better? I'm not certain I will be able to see what is going on too well.

Any suggestions, or would some type of sticky stuff or sealant interfere with the fitting of the gasket.

Thanks for your thoughts on this,

John

Use whatever sealant is specified by the SC kit maker/OEM or none at all if none is recommended. A little gasket cement on the four corners of each gasket should be enough to keep them from moving. You might also figure out a way of sticking some short lengths of doweling into the bolt holes in the block to keep the gaskets in place, then removing them with a strong magnet once you get the intake/SC in place.

If you are really worried about handling the SC, suspend it over the block using a cherry-picker or a carefully positioned cable hoist slung over the rafters of your garage. Then you can lower it very slowly while you and your friend guide it into place.

Thanks very much, haven't heard of gasket cement before.

I'd go to the parts store and get some spray tack (also known as high tack or quick tack) and spray the gaskets. That should hold them in place as you lower the intake into place.

Good luck,

It's a 4.6 liter 2002 Mustang GT. Kenne Bell supercharger kit.

I'm not used to dealing with gaskets this big, and trying to be careful about the install.
