I don't think I ever had a Toyota with a 'self locking' system, or had trouble like this. You'll have to provide a reference.

I like power everything because most of the time the power items give you more options for adjustment.

Power mirrors - MUCH easier to adjust the mirrors if you're sitting in the seat the way you actually drive.

Power seats - more range of positions available than with the manual seats.

Power windows - Great for those times after a trip through Taco-Bell or Burrito Joes, Trust me on this one...

Power locks - With a small 2 door these are not really needed. BUT take a larger 4 door or a full sized crew cab truck and the option pays for itself the first time you don't have to crawl over the seats to unlock/lock a door.

Toyota had the same problem about 10 years ago. Wiring would short, lock the doors and keep power applied to the lock motors till they caught fire. No one in the vehicle could unlock the doors and get out so they burned to death when the burning window motors set fire to the rest of the car. I think Toyota called it a feature. Self locking safety system or something like that.

I once read somewhere, if somebody is driving a fiberglass body car and if it catches fire,,, Get out as fast as you can! That burning fiberglass stuff gives off poisious fumes.Not only that, but there wouldn't be anything left of that car but the thick iron/steel pieces. cuhulin

Sounds like an urban legend, and not a very good one either. :-)

In my experience, limited as it may be, ANY fire that gets inside any typical car will spread VERY fast.

I'm not the only one who recalls it.

Oh, yes...I remember the Pinto. I also remember the rusting 3-year-old hulks called Datsuns and TOYotas, especially the mini pickups, that had bed sides that were made of two halves, with the joint being open to everything the rear tires could throw at them. I also remember those cameries whose power locks would lock, catch on fire, and trap their passengers inside for a little bar-b-que. Fine stuff built back in the day.

A local tv news reporter woman said in some countries the Honda Fit car is called Jazz and I think she said Citi. cuhulin

Maybe that is why there are so many tv ads about those hammers with the pointy tips on them.If you can't get out of your car, bust out a window with the hammer device.Auto stores sell them too.

Fibreglass burns quickly and with a lot of nasty combustion products, but tires are not exactly safe in that regard either.

Gasoline burns comparatively cleanly, but it burns very quickly, and you're sitting right on top of twenty gallons of it.

Fire and cars don't mix.
