oil plug damaged ... stripped

If the plug is too recessed to be removed, perhaps you could unscrew it with a pair of long nosed ViseGrips. If not, and you felt compelled to remove it you could drill a hole in the center and use an exractor to remove the plug. Then you could find a longer plug or fashion a longer plug in some way. If you are a do-it-yourselfer with oil changes you could suck the oil out from now on using a small pump available at some auto and most marine stores. This is how the oil in many boats is changed. The professional way would be to install a new pan and charge the son.

Actually, the best solution would be to have the son (with your assistance) replace the pan (and pay for it). That would solve "repetitive bottoming out" problems.
