Rendevous Won't Start

Have An 02 Buick Rendevous. A Few Times I Went Out To Start And It Was Dead. Nothing...but, The Lights Etc All Worked And Battery Gage Read A Full Chg. Later, Tried It Again, And It Turned Over. It Was To The Shop, And They Couldn't Find The Problem. Now Its Done It Again. This Time There Is A "click", But Nothing Else. What Could Be Wrong??????

It sounds like the solenoid contacts in your starter are failing. In the early stages of contact wear, the starter will work intermittantly, but as they get worse it will engage less frequently until the starter is completely inoperative. You will hear one loud click even when the engine fails to crank over, indicating that the starter solenoid and ignition key circuit are working but the starter winding is not drawing current.

The other end of the spectrum would be an intermittant short in the starter motor winding that would draw excessive current but not spin the motor's armature. This would be accompanied by excessive dimming of lights as the key is turned to start.

Sufficient power does not reach the starter motor. Some possible causes, in order of probability:

1.) Poor contact at battery cable post connections. 2.) Poor contact at battery cable end connections 3.) Defective battery cables. 4.) Defective battery. (The car battery gauge does not show the amount of charge in the battery). 5.) Defective starter solenoid. 6.) Defective ignition switch (if click is not solenoid)

Good luck.

Anybody can install any part on any car!

It's not like they are magical life forms that humans cannot comprehend!

You require tools and basic knowledge to acomplish the task at hand. It sounds like you lack knowledge. Do you have tools?
