Tire feedback

I wanted to provide some feedback on Falken tires.

I had some on my car.

They were warranted for 65 K miles.

They lasted 21 K miles.

My recommendation is to not EVER buy Falken tires.

I replaced them with Yohohama YK580.

Have a nice evening,

Andy

Well, how did they feel? Did they handle well? Which ones did you have?

I think with tires, you really do get what you pay for.

Nearly 6 years ago, I had a set of four Michelin Green X 225/60R16 tires installed on my car at Costco.

No, they weren't cheap. I think even with the Costco discount, the total in 2010 was somewhere in the range of $500-$600.

Long story short, they lasted about 5 years, and I'm not even sure how many miles, but it was pretty close to the warranted figure (circa 70000 miles IIRC).

I lost one Michelin last fall to a bolt through the sidewall (still not sure how that happened). By this February, the other three were looking not so good, with lots of small cracks. One was leaky enough that it was losing a few PSI each week.

I remembered all this when tire-shopping. Initially, I thought about buying some cheap Chinese tires, but in the end, I just couldn't. Again, I laid out the better part of $600. No regrets.

Granted, not everyone has the budget to be choosy. Like the guy who was driving his beat-up Kia in the Walmart parking lot last week, with a donut tire holding up a rear corner of the car. And a non-working tail light. And a missing front bumper cover.

Last year (2015) a new Yokohama tire factory opened in my State. That factory makes commercial truck tires.

Those aren't super sticky tires, but they are pretty sticky tires, and in general you pay in tread life for the improved handling.

When you took them off, what kind of wear pattern did you see? Was it nice and even?

Those are much, much less sticky tires. If you care more about tread life than handling that is probably a good choice for you.

I didn't realize how big a difference 'sticky' made until my friend let me drive her Honda S2000 down from the mountains. Worth every penny if you do a lot of that kind of driving!

Tread wear was even as I rotate and balance ever 5K miles.

Discount Tires gave a fair adjustment for the Falken tires.

You should put your review on Tirerack.com.

I tried to do a survey, but it would not let me select the model of tire.
