i have a 93 Chevy Cavalier 3.1 with no heat. I just got the car this last summer, and never need heat till it got to winter . I can turn the heat on full blast, i get some air flow on high . I cant switch it to defrost to heat to anything . the only heat i get out it through the vents , the air flow is not strong at all, take me sometimes 30 -40 min to defrost windows . Do i have a block vent , bad switch , or both, what are my steps on checking stuff 1st , . i know i have a good therastat. the heati do get out is hot / very warm . Please help in Northern Wisconsin with out heat.

Airflow blocked at the heater core. It's easy to remove the blower motor, but I don't know if you can get a vacuum hose in to suck out the blockage. The alternative is to pull the heater out from the inside which is a LOT of work.
I think your controls are vacuum activated. I would be looking for a vacuum line off the top back of the engine someplace.
Do you hear any hissing from under the dash when you try the defrost?

You can get at the front of the core by partially removing the ducting behind the engine (or at least you could on a '90...I think they're pretty much the same). I had the same problem with mine & the core was completely plugged with all sorts of junk & fuzz. Might be a little tough to get at with the 6 though...mine was a 4.

you have a vaccume leak. fix the leak which may also let the air door work which may also fix the air flow problem. KB
