Fuel cover release cable

I have a 1996 Toyota Celica. I think that the cable from the release lever by the driver?s seat through to the fuel cover on the rear nearside wing has snapped. "Someone" may have pulled it up too energetically and now it is just flapping. Consequently I cannot open the fuel cover flap. Is there any way of opening this manually? Can anyone tell me how the cable is channelled through from the driver?s seat to the rear wing so that perhaps I can take a look and see if I can find out where the end of the broken cable is? Certainly this would help me open the cover and at least get some fuel in the car?

I'm not certain about a '96 Celica, but on some vehicles there is a short wire with a pull tab on it, usually located in the trunk on the same side as the filler door. Pull to open.

If you are lucky, the break is where the cable attaches to the fuel door release lever. If that is the case, you can try pulling the cable manually with a pair of pliers.

Pry it GENTLY!!!!! with a screwdriver, and then bend the tang that meets the pin in a little bit. This will at least make it so you can open the fill door...
