lost key for my Toyota Echo!

I'm living in South Korea. I drive a Toyota Echo 4 door. When I bought the car, I was given only one key, and guess what, I lost the key recently when moving. So being over here, it's a great difficulty to get a key made, (let alone find a toyota dealer.). From what I am hearing, the car has a chip requirement on the key which allows the electrical system to turn on. So they want $800 for a key to be made. is there any advice from some one who has this kind of experience on how to get a key made for my car?

Is that eight hundred USD? If so, that is excessively expensive. It usually costs between fifty and one hundred in the U.S.. I am not aware of any method to get around the chip issue. Maybe you could call a dealer in the states, have one or two made from the VIN and any other info they need, and have them overnight or next day it to you. That has to be cheaper than eight hundred dollars. If not, you will probably have to pay what they want and get a new key cut and programmed. Good luck!
