"Mystery" part

Here's a tough one to describe without a photo. I have a '96 Tercel,

4-speed manual transmission. On the top of the transaxle housing there is a rubber "boot." It sits directly adjacent to what I *think* is the clutch slave cylinder. Anybody know what this boot is covering? There's a piece missing from mine, and I'm wondering how critical it is to replace.

Yes, I know, time to buy a shop manual. I only bought the car a week ago.

- Thanks.

I think I figured it out . . . clutch fork dust boot.
