ON-topic...(2000 Echo)

Since the Echo got hit back in June, the gear box makes a sound similar to the safety brake, when you move it forward. Those shit-heads at "Courtesy Toyota" claimed to have fixed it, but not surprisingly, they didn't.

Any thoughts?

Try some different shit-heads?

Works for me, but what I was asking is, could this be something related to the accident. Louis says yes, so I'll be calling the other guy's insurance company, as well as the shit-heads, to let them know my list for them has increased yet again.

If it is a rubbing sound, make sure that nothing in the wheel wells are touching any of the wheels. Someone who knows what he or she is listening to needs to hear it for a proper diagnosis.

I can tell you exactly what it sounds like - it sounds like pulling your e-brake

OK, so possibilities (assuming the noise is coming from the front and not from the rear where the parking brake, A.K.A. e-brake is:

Bent brake backing plate Mis-adjusted brakes (if noise is from the rear) Bad wheel bearing (from whatever corner the noise is coming from) Worn brake pad or sticking caliper slide

It comes directly from the gearbox area, so I'm on the phone with the other guy's insurance as I type. State Farm, Courtesy Corporation, as well as Toyota will hear about the shit sandwich that is Courtesy Collision Pro in Central Florida.

Natalie, making the list of gripes even longer

The gear box is under the hood in front of the driver. The shifter is what you use to select gears. If the noise is coming from the shifter, the noise is somehow being telegraphed inside, the same principle as putting your ear to railroad tracks. Most likely cause is the transmission or driveline itself.

Or, check for a loose nut behind the steering wheel

I just got off the phone with the other guy's insurance, State Farm, and they've referred me to a local Toyota dealership/collision center, so we'll see. I'm glad I blogged every step of this nightmare, because I'm going to put every single thing "Courtesy" Collision Pro did wrong - no matter how many trees I have to kill!

That's no way to speak of my son! Wait...

I think you misspoke... Hopefully "Courtesy Collision Pro" has nothing to do with Toyota....

Whenever one is not satisfied with a repair, it is best to take the vehicle back to the shop and let it there until they correct the problem.

Actually, the 'Courtesy' corporation also has Toyota dealerships (It's where we bought the Scion XA). They're owned by the same company (Dan Marino is their spokesperson), so I think Toyota should know that their dealers are in cahoots with the worst service company I've ever seen. I'm sure Toyota doesn't own Courtesy, but I'm also just as sure that the Courtesy corporation has Toyota/Lexus/Scion franchises.

good idea, Mike, but the car got hit, ended up in the shop, right in the middle of Wickeddoll and familys move out of state.

she had to make a special trip to go get the car, which was left for her with a dead battery to boot.....

Yup - did I mention that "Courtesy (Ha!) Collision Pro" in Orlando, FL sucks? Oh yeah, I did... can I say it again?

The Echo is going to a local Toyota dealer, to be paid for by the other guy's insurance. I'll keep ya posted!
