I'd like to know the breakdown on Shia/Sunni membership in the Pakistani military. Regular Iraqi troops under Saddam were Shia (cannon fodder, while the RG were all Sunni.

Pakistan is Sunni, but I wonder if the military conscripts are.

Per the CIA World Factbook:

The country is Muslim 97% (Sunni 77%, Shi'a 20%), other (includes Christian and Hindu) 3%. I don't know about the military.

I knew the population was balanced that way, but still wonder if their Shia are considered military fodder.

Maybe our friend's book will spell that out later.
