Let's see...."nonessential lights", and "encourage people to think twice about leaving the kitchen light on at night."

Didn't your family turn off lights in rooms where nobody needed them at the moment? My grandparents did this, as did my parents, and now I do it. Nowhere in the article did it say this would be a requirement.

Absolutely.

The big brother concept is marching on. Next there will be a mandatory lights out day. Even house numbers on Tuesday, odd house numbers on Wednesday. If your lights are on when they are supposed to be off you will be fined $1000 and spend the next weekend in jail, plus you will have to turn off your lights on weekends for a month.

Turn off the TV so you can hear the helicopters coming....

My grand parents and my parents ALWAYS turned off the light when leaving a room. It saved a lot of the "coal oil" we use in the lamps They saved a lot fuel to heat hot water, as well. All five of us kids bathed in the same tub of water, one at a time, on Saturday night. Oldest one first, to get the water warmed up for the youngest. LOL
