Has anyone watched the Land Rover commercial? Note that at first the plate on the vehicle is 60-88 up above. This is almost exactly like a Japanese temp plate except it's missing the red stripe. (Photoshop?) Later on one sees a regular Japanese plate number 68-57. Can't read the Hirigana.

I haven't seen the commercial, I'll have to keep an eye out.
It's the one about the Land Rover experiencing rush hour in Tokyo underground. There are at least 2 different identical vehicles used. One has what looks a lot like a Japanese Temporary plate minus the diagonal red stripe, with the number pairs above and to the right 60-88. I don't get a good enough look at it, and haven't caught it on video tape yet to see if I can pick out the Hirigana or Kanji on it. The second plate one sees looks like a normal Japanese plate number 68-57. Again, it goes by so fast that I can't pick out the prefecture or even the class (Should be at least 300, the Land Rover is over 2000 cc)

Japanese license plates usually have a mix of numbers, Hiragana, and Kanji. I can read Hiragana but my Kanji is very limited.
As fast as it goes by, even freeze-framing it may not make it clear enough. I would expect it to be one of the subdivisions of Tokyo.
Now I feel old. When I was a kid, our encyclopedia referred to Tokio and places like Porto Rico. And also mentioned that the Nebraska legislature voted to go unicameral in 1934. . . . . (Hint for the US Congress. . .)

Finally saw the commercial today - I saw the numbers but was not able to pick out anything else on the plate.
Since I don't have HDTV here, trying to get more detail out of even a freeze frame is going to be tough.
I miss having a Japanese plate. I used to have one years ago, I think it was an E plate from Okinawa. That is, instead of hirigana, it had the character in front of the numbers as E. That was used on some of the US Military private cars, if I remember right.

I have never been able to figure out the Japanese license plate numbering system.
BTW, that is "Hiragana" not HirIgana. ;-)
