That was the Justice Department's answer to Gibson Guitars after all their

Why do you think the Lacey Act is a bullshit regulation? Be sure to take 3 minutes to check your information about the Lacey Act before responding.

If they would do some research they would discover that the Lacey act is so badly written that it can cause guitars made in the '20's all the way through to today to be confiscated at the border. The bureaucrats actually think they can tell if the back and sides are Brazilian rosewood, or the fingerboard is a specific ebony from a specific country just by using color picures of wood, or if the white abalone (legal) is pink abalone. Don't waste our time doing the rightwing blame-game. The Lacey act forces the U.S. to enforce the laws of other countries against U.S. citizens. We need to have the lacey act fixed.

Just recently they tried to ban pernambuco from Brazil. Just about every string player uses pernambuco for bows. Imagine all the confiscated bows being sold by bureaucrats on Ebay.

Once the fish & wildlife bureaucrats confiscate your guitar, it is gone forever.

None of this applies to any guitars made anywhere in Asia, and doesn't apply to the 85% of the tropical wood that goes into Chinese furniture. Google the $800,000 mahogany bedroom set.

It's imperfect, but I don't think that's why the Hack thinks it's a bullshit regulation. Let's wait & see if he's able to answer the question like an actual adult.
