The defendant pleaded out.

I don't think you'll miss it if you're not called again.

I saw that happen during the jury selection process.

I think we get paid $30... trying to remember. If called during work, we get paid our regular salary - vs. being docked or having to take a personal day, but the school district gets the money we would've been paid for the time we put in for jury duty. Fair deal, IMO.

Don't they pick alphabetically from voter registration lists?

Maybe, but you never know if it's anything like around here. People don't get called for years on end, then get called a few times w/in several years. Others get called on a virtually constant basis, even when they've never been chosen to serve on a jury in the past. No one seems to know what the rhyme or reason is - or if there even *is* one.

Maybe. OTOH, two points of data do not a pattern make.

County court here pays only for mileage (and makes us listen to Fox News in the waiting room). Federal court pays $30/day.

I meant... you'd have to wait & see if it happens again the year after that (& then again year after that)... At *that* point, it'd be a reasonably good bet to assume it'd happen each year.
