The high desert is overpopulated with a shortage of roads and exclusive homes just off the freeway right at the top of the hill.

Holy crap. When we left in 1990, those McHouses were just going up. There was pretty much open land between downtown Victorville and the Victorville Mall. Glad we left. There were some apartments and such near the highway, as well as housing just outside of the now closed George AFB (where hubby and I met as active duty types, and where our son was born).

It probably was. We never had any problem with the 'dreaded roll-over'. Probably because with the 80 hp engine and Powerslide tranny, we couldn't drive it like a bat outta hell like Ralph drove his VW at the time. (BTW, Ralph's 65 VW had the same problem!)

Heck, I had my 61 Monza Coupe with the 95 HP & Powerglide sideways several times, when they didn't bother to sign the curve at 20 and I was trying to take it at 40 ("Oh, S*IT!!!") - but I knew better than to try correcting violently and turning a simple controllable and correctable slide into a tuck-under-and-roll.

It has 102 HP heads on it now. (63?) Just in case I want to change over to automatic chokes, the later heads have the heater wells.
