That's correct, quality point by point discussion is difficult -- if not completely impossible -- by top posting, but a general reply to an idiot is easily accomplished by a top post.

Since you seldom, if ever, make a point by point discussion that is worth the keystrokes to engage in a conversation, I feel very safe in making a top post that covers all that you have to say in any given post.

I feel comfortable snipping your lunacy with out fear of losing track of the point, since there usually is none.

I agree completely with this point, make an answer inline where it is important.

But, there are lots of times when one can, and in my feeble mind SHOULD top post if for no other reason than to save scrolling through dozens, if not hundreds, of lines of text that has already been waded through. This especially true on the first level replies where one wants to agree with or dismiss out of hand the entirety of the original post. For example, in this particular discussion, I was the first to reply -- or I replied at the first level but was not the first to reply -- and the OP posted something that had no point by point discussion. In this instance, a top post is appropriate, and in my opinion is a courtesy to everybody else.

On the other hand, mixing top posts and bottom posts is most definitely Very Poor Form. One should observe the flow of the discussion when electing to top post or not.

That is true. Top-posters are idiots and generally not worth reading. They are stupid, lazy, and selfish, and generally just want to rant-away at the top, often ignoring important points raised in the previous message.

I read your post with great interest. You have a good point... on the top of your cone-shaped hat. Here are a few counterpoints:

1. If you don't like the OT posts, don't read them.
2. You forgot to put "OT" in the beginning of your subject line. Please have more respect for the group. Some of us prefer to read the on-topic posts only.
3. The actual topic of discussion here *is* Toyota automobiles. That's why posts which are off the topic are marked OT, which stands for "Off Topic."
4. Killfiling everyone who posts OT is counterproductive to your aim, because some of the best Toyota techs here post OT subjects fairly regularly.
5. Top-posting is a matter of preference, and does not indicate a moron or lack of Toyota expertise on the part of the top-poster, so once again you end up killfiling some of the people who contribute the most to the on-topic discussion.
6. Unless you enjoy being annoyed, getting annoyed about how other people post on a newsgroup is pretty silly.
7. Posting a snarky complaint about it certainly isn't going to make anyone want to change the way they do things so that they can please you.
8. If you want to see more discussions here on Toyota care and/or maintenance, you should start some, rather than pissing and moaning about your personal problems you have in regards to this group.

I like to have this belief that people who are under a certain level of intelligence are unable to get access to a computer and figure out how to post to Usenet. I know the belief is probably wrong, but it makes me happier so I hold on to it. If my belief is correct in this case, then you are not below that level of intelligence as your post so thoroughly indicates.

The artistry of your post is that your illogic has layers upon layers of self-referential nonsense which in turn create interference patterns amongst themselves. There are so many short-circuit, concentric logic loopbacks in your post that it sets up its own field of stupidity, like the magnetic field surrounding the earth. I suspect your post transcends simple three-dimensional idiocy and breaks through our space-time into alternate universes. No one could achieve that level of moronicity by accident.
