Although the repair is not quite the same, my personal preference is to repair the chip good enough so that 9 out of 10 people couldn't find the repair and keep the original factory urethane seal that I know is not leaking instead of taking the risk that a replacement windshield might leak.

With the adhesives used now, the chances of leaks are VERY small. If, however, you're lucky enough to hid enough of the damage that 9 of 10 can't see it....

At Firestone we do it this way also A much better end result
