An engine needs 3 things to work properly:
Air (check your air filter to make sure it is not clogged) Fuel (check the sight glass in the side of the carburetor to see if there is fuel there) Spark - pull a spark plug and see if you are getting spark. If #1 spark plug does not spark, pull the other ones. If there is not spark from any of the 4 plugs, check the igniter.
OK, how about a little help? Does it crank but not start? Does it try to start but coughs out?
And when was the last time you changed the Timing Belt...?
Gee...you're sure full of info aren't you... will it crank?, does it just click?, does it make no sound when you attempt to start it?, are there any lights on?...will the horn blow?...

Maybe he needs to start using the crank instead. Remember: NEVER wrap your thumb over the crank!
