Undoc Feature on T???

Question

On other Jap cars there are documented Shift Lock Releases so one can get the vehicle out of park to move it without starting it. (dead battery etc.)

My 06 Sienna has the same kind of small plastic cover near the base of the shifter where one would supposedly insert the key to get released from park as on the Acura. Nothing is in the manuals provided and I'm not sure how that small cover opens??? Push it down, sideways or pry out with a screw-breaker? Do I have this feature? Would it be proper to tow any significant distance once in neutral?

Your Sienna has a shift lock release. It should be covered in the "In Case of Emergency" section of your owner's manual. Remove the cover with a screwdriver to access the shift lock release.

You should not tow the Sienna any significant distance with the drive wheels on the ground even if the transmission is in neutral because the transmission will be damaged.

Thanks Ray OIt was indeed hidden under Emergency, In case offifth entry down.Very "whatever" - could have been under "C" for can't find or car.I thought MS and Symatic (Ghost) had a near monopoly on this kind ofdocumentation.mike

It helps to know how Toyota lays out their owner's manuals. I worked for Toyota for almost 15 years and still have trouble finding some things in their indexes. For example, if you were looking for an ash tray on the microfiche (I'm dating myself here), you had to look under "receptacle, ash."
