Volkswagen Regrets

Mike, This is not true. Toyota does not have the highest number of recalls so far in 2007. If you have a reference that says otherwise, please post it. If you don't have a reference don't try to send us on a wild goose chase trying to prove a negative.

I downloaded and sorted the NHTSA recall database and reviewed the NHTSA recall press releases. Here is a complete list of 2007 Toyota safety recalls:

Sept 26 - NHTSA # 07E082000 - 2007 and 2008 Camry and Lexus ES350 Floor Mats (an equipment recall, not a vehicle recall) - approximately 55,000 vehicles affected

Jan 19 - NHTSA # 07V013000 - 2004 to 2007 Sequoias and 2004 to 2006 Tundras - lower ball joint recall - 533,124 vehicles affected

Jul 24 - NHTSA # 07V324000 - 2007 Tacoma 4WD Pickup - propeller shaft - 108 vehicles affected

Jan 16 - NHTSA # 07E005000 - Scion XA and XB - aftermarket cruise control (not installed by Toyota) - 2934 vehicles affected

Jan 25 - NHTSA # 07V030000 - Scion XA and XB - Gulf States installed cruise control - 1372 vehicles affected

Jan 16 - NHTSA # 07V048000 - Scion XA and XB - Southeast Toyota installed cruise control - 716 vehicles

Mar 22 - NHTSA # 07E023000 - Sequoia - brake master cylinder THIS IS FOR AFTERMARKET REPLACEMENT PARTS and is not a Toyota recall (the same recall covers master cylinders for many vehicles, including Fords, VWs, BMWs, and others). - na

This list does not include recalls for 2007 vehicles that were announced before Jan 1, 2007. It is strictly a list of all 2007 Toyota safety recalls. The list includes recalls for current and prior model cars that were announced on or after Jan 1, 2007. The total number of Toyota recalls so far in 2007 is 593,254 vehicles. This includes several thousand recalls caused by an aftermarket cruise control that was not manufactured by Toyota, although it was installed by Toyota distributors and dealers. Less than

600,000 recalls doesn't even put Toyota in the top 3 for 2007. I know for sure that Ford, Nissan, and VW all had more than 600,000 vehicle recalled so far in 2007. I did not bother to add up the recalls for GM (many small ones) and Honda.

If you want to repeat my research, go to

and get started. I also checked the Autochannel list, the Toyota press releases, Cars.com, and Consumer Reports. I believe I have a comprehensive list of 2007 Toyota recalls. Your up.... Ed

**For the US market, the Mark IV Jetta was built in Mexico and the Golf was built in Brazil. Certain editions and models were built in Germany, for instance, the Jetta wagon and VWs carrying the Wolfsburg moniker were built in Germany. I'm not sure if the newest Mark Vs hold to that.

If Toyota actually had 600,000 RECALLS as you call them, that would be the all time record for ten years or more. LOL

Not only that, but they are sporty and good performance cars. Mine was only 85HP but blew the doors off more powerful cars.

They need to send the blueprints to Japan and have them built correctly with good parts...

The Beetles are, for the most part. The rest are about 60% German, 35% Mexican and 5% Brazilian.

**Agreed. It's sad to say that *when* they are working properly, they are fantastic cars. Sadly, VW pushed them upmarket, stuffed them full of shoddy electronics and plastic parts that should've been metal, then responded in a less than admirable fashion when they had mass failures of coil packs on the 1.8Ts, brake light relays, window clips/regulators, water pumps and so on and so forth.

The assistant Mgr at the CarQuest I was working at needed a new coil pack for his 1.8t. He waited many days without the car, got the car back, and two days later was waiting again for more coil packs to come from Germany.

They had such a high failure rate that the waiting list for new coils went into WEEKS!

600,000 vehicles recalled Mike - but you knew that. You also knew you were wrong when you claimed Toyota had the most recalls in 2007.
