What's the Highlander Hybrid going for?

I've got a Lexus RX300 (2003) but I'm getting tired of driving 30+ miles to and from the Lexus dealer for maintenance every 5,000 miles. I'm considering the Highlander Hybrid since my Toyota dealer is far more convenient (2 actually, both within 3 miles). But the list price of the Hybrid is $40,000. I paid $37,000 for my Lexus. I'd consider the Highlander Hybrid if the dealers are willing to deal.

Try taking the RX 300 to the Toyota dealer for service. They will have most of the OEM parts necessary for routine maintenance.

Dealers are called "dealers" for a reason. As far as whether you can get a "deal" on a hybrid Highlander, without checking around myself, I'd guess no for at least 6 months until initial demand is met.

I took my lexus to the toyota dealer for maintenance all the time. Toyota and Lexus are practically identical - same engines, trannies, etc. Plus, a toyota dealer will charge a lot less...

But my other issue is with the RX300's HD headlights which are getting stolen at a record place here in NY. Mine was stolen right out of my driveway! and the replacement cost was over $6,000 since they damaged the airbag sensors, electrical harness, etc in the process. The Highlander doesn't have the HD headlights (at least as far as I know).

Get a Highlander. Even if you pay a premium, it won't be 6 large.

What's the Highlander Hybrid going for? An amount over a non hybrid that is about equal to what one would spend to buy ALL of the fuel needed to run a non hybrid for around three or four years, generally ;)

I saw one the other day at dealers it was about $40K

I heard/read that Toyota hopes to get the battery replacement (about 8 years!) to 3-4,000 from the current 8,000!

Better save a lot of fuel

Actually, I've found the Murano and even the Equinox more attractive. The Highlander's parking brake release seems too low for my size 16 (US) feet and the pedal rubs against my leg when the parking brake is fully released. Why doesn't Toyota make a pedal that raises up higher?
