Speaking of, and totally off topic, I was reading the other day that store front accidents involving elderly drivers happen around 1,000 times a year. That's freaky!

I'm not a big fan of the Prius. Yeah, it's neat, and the technology is bleeding-edge, but you also have 2 motors that can break rather than one, and I think the fix for the electric motor is to replace rather than repair.

One came in with some kind of battery issue, and we had to strip the interior out to get to the battery and connections; the car was in the shop for four days.

Personally, I can't see spending >$20,000 for a car that size, when I was getting >42 MPG in a Tercel driving the wheels off it.

And it was an automatic to boot...

Yep... totally preventable.

Here's a little more. Interesting it replaced the Starlet, which was only sold here for a few years, but has been on sale in at least Japan, Australia and New Zealand since the early 70's. There were a lot of parts available for it, and even a Factory turbo:

History Mar 1999: All-new Yaris replaces Starlet. Oct 1999: 1.3-litre engine introduced. Jan 2000: High-roofed Yaris Verso estate joins line-up. Also uses 1.3 engine. Mar 2001: ABS made standard on all models, and 1.5-litre T Sport introduced. Feb 2002: 1.4 D-4D diesel arrives. Mar 2003: Facelift with restyled nose. Old S, GS, GS, GLS and CDX trims replaced by T3, T Spirit and T Sport variants.

I could do this:

It sat for a week, and when I decided to buy it some guy came in and offered $2800 for it(I got it for $1400)...tough decision, but I was just finishing up the installation of the Killer Stereo! ;)

I drove it three uears and sold it to buy my 18 MPG Supra (!) I don't regret it when the sun is shining and the roof is open...

But that was an overall average, combination of 'city' and highway driving. I live in a rural area and rarely drive

They should change the name from prius to pompus, the way some of these dolts defend it...

Maybe someday you'll test drive one, discover its realities, &... change your tune. ;-P

I don't know who the 'we' this democrat is referring to... But like hillary refusing to admit a woman has no business being president and expecting us to buy her arguement that time on her knees in the WH counts as 'experience' in the WH, these prius loving demon-crats refuse to admit they're wrong..

All one has to do is go to edmunds.com and do a compare of the 2009 corolla and the new prius. The demon-crats were arguing the prius is bigger so they could not be compared. ...HA.. Any idiot can see the corolla is bigger (or as big), more reliable and can be had for a few dollars over invoice.

The prius is going for sticker or above and the sticker is 8 grand higher..But whateva...vote 4 hillary and drive a 'pompus' and when you get home put your head back into the sand .... CP

Also, the corolla gets as good mileage as the yaris, yet it's roomier with more available options.. Yaris is about 3 k less than corolla.

Yes, the Prius is not a very safe car.. And not a proven technology...I'd stay away ...that is, if the price doesn't keep you away.... CP
