hi i am a brit in need of help. i just bought 1993 109k camry auto. it wont kick down! all else is fine. it will rev in low in 1 st gear to the red line, but in auto it will not kick down at all. i wondering if its a knackered gearbox. ecu or what!! help... jamie in london

======== On the 4 cylinder there is a second cable at the throttle body that runs down to the transaxle and assists in downshifting. Make sure yours in connected and adjusted properly.

it to have slight freeplay. You should find more preciseinstructions in the manual.While you're doing all this, I would first pin the gas pedal to thefloor and adjust out any freeplay at wide open throttle, then adjustthe transmission cable if needed.
