I am the current owner of a 97 Camry and it has the problem where the rear drivers door will not lock or unlock with out me doing it manually, any ideas

Yeah, the "lock solenoid" or actually a small motor that locks/unlocks the door may need to be replaced. Before that you should check the voltage and verify that it's the motor acting up and not the wiring.
