2000 Camry: ground clearance?

A friend has a 2000 Camry that scrapes a lot on speed bumps (the newer higher ones) and on a couple of garage ramps.

When I look from ground level, the exhaust seems to stick down a lot (before the muffler). When I first saw that I thought it was falling off but I noticed other Camrys with similar configurations.

Does the Camry actually have a low clearance? Is there an alternate way to route the exhaust?

Thanks!

andrew

4 cyl. Camry's are notorious for grounding out due to a much weaker suspension than the SIX cyl. models.

Interesting, I'm pretty sure this is a 4 cylinder. Can anything be done to strengthen/stiffen the suspension?

Replace the springs with V6 ones - the struts are the same between the 2 models. The exhaust has the kick it itr so it doesn't resonate.

Why don't you check first to see exactly what is scraping, or if the car is over loaded. Then you'll have a better indication what needs correction. Ride height specifications are available in the factory manual, so that can also be checked.

Thank you, I plan to. For sure not overloaded, unelss a few things in the trunk and two people in the vehicle constitutes overloaded (you never know).

Don't know about the 2000, the '03 4-cyl. is very low and was concern when I bought mine, the lowest point does seem to be the tailpipe downstream of the muffler.

I drive on a LOT of dirt, gravel country roads and have to say that although I was worried, only once did I scrape and then I KNEW I was going to because I was coming off one rotten gravel track onto another even more rotten track and there was a high "berm" at the edge.

So, my point is....if you are careful, it may not be a problem. Certainly not enough of a problem that I'd spend bucks on a beefed up spring system
