2003 Toyota Camry Outside Ambient Air Temperature Sensor

I have replaced my outside ambient air temperature sensor on my 2003 Toyota Camry. However, the digital reading next to the clock still shows

2 dashes "- -" and no temperature. Does this need to be reprogrammed? Does any know how to do this without going to the dealer? Pressing the E/M button does not seem to do anything. Normally this allows you to change from Fahrenheit to Celsius, etc.
