My girlfriend's Camry '99 LE stock radio has developed serious skipping problems in its CD player. We want to upgrade/replace the stock unit... the big stores do not carry units with both CD and cassette players anymore, just CD players. Cursory checks online show a Pioneer CD/cassette 2 din unit for about $250... but there seem to be many more available.
Does anybody have any suggestions on which is a good brand/model to upgrade to?

the pioneer is a 1000% upgrade over the toy radio the pioneer has excellent sound and great reliabilty waisting money spending more to get "better quality" high-end stereo is a shame your speakers would need an extensive and expensive upgrade as well as adding sound processing and amps subs etc to use the so called better quality stereos.
pioneer jvc sony etc mid priced stereos have the best value
From experience. Take the radio out, take the top off, and use one of those computer cleaner compressed air items and blow the dust out gently. 9 of 10 times, this will get the cd working well enough you will save 150 bucks.
other than that,.........the pioneer will get better reception and last longer than almost any other brand in the range you are scoping.
