camry oil in dist. cap?

Hi Can anyone advise on order of troubleshooting

89 Camry with 4 cylinder engine, running fine. Parked it for about an hour. Wouldn't start. Didn't sound like fuel pump working. Fuses fine.

Checked for spark, got none so decided to see if cap or coil damaged. When took off distributor cap found more than a tablespoon of oil in there. Cleaned it and coil but nothing changed.

Anyone have experience with problem like this?

Thanks,

Mike

It happens to all of that model, the oil ruins the coil, the O ring is worn, you need to pull the distributor to fix and use a toy coil, aftermarket have a high defect rate.

Check the distributor o-ring. It's probably worn. Common in old cars. It's time to check other rubber parts, like cam/crank seals, valve cover gasket, etc. AutoZone has a free repair guide on the Camry:
