Rover 214 Si not starting

Aug 09, 2007 0 Replies

Does anyone have any words of advice for a friend with a Rover 214 K series 16v, apart from scrapping it:)

The symptoms are that it has run fine for a while and then after it was parked overnight it turned over well but wouldn't start. He called the RAC who fiddled with electrics, and it eventually started. It ran OK for another week and the same thing happened. However this time nothing seems to make it start. They suggested replacing the crankshaft sensor.

Battery seems fine and turns the engine over briskly.

No spark from the main distributor lead

Replaced the distributor cap and rotor arm

Replaced the crankshaft sensor.

The ECU has been checked by a specialist company.

The tachometer doesn't pulse when trying to start the engine

All the engine management fuses have been checked.
