check engine lite and trac control lite

After being told by Toyota Techs and a trusted local mechanic that all was well despite the lites being constantly on, I decided to do something about the annoyance Now I could shoot them out, tape over them but then logic took over.

I disconnected and reconnected the battery and voila the lites reset.

Wonder what it may have cost to have them do a computer check and end up doing the same thing?

Assuming that the underlying problem was fixed, then all will be well. However, for some problems the light may come back on because it is not triggered immediately, but only after the problem occurs continuously for a certain period of time. I had this occur with an O2 sensor.

Pulling the fuse also works to reset the computer.

It cost me $82 at the dealer to run computer diagnoses and find out that some sort of a rodent chewed the traction control wires, and rendered the system disabled. I had to pay although my car was under warranty, since the trac sys didn't fail by itself.

In any case, the dealer I went to charges $80 something/hour which is pricey and not typical compared to other dealers in the area, but they do have excellent facilities.

Other dealers in northern Illinois charge somewhere in the range of $30 to $50 to run different types of diagnoses.
