Three bolts are vertical and inviting of a few washers to elevate. The horizontal bolt in the right back corner poses a headache. Has anyone discovered a trick? Half and inch would make a huge improvement in fit.

Your wife would probably benefit from far more than JUST half an inch!!
I wouldnt do it unless you understand you might need new longer bolts, get a piece of foam rubber.
