No AM Radio Reception 1993 Camry V6XLE Toyota A11708 (Type C) Radio

Last week my AM reception stopped on this original equipment Radio (number on faceplate is Toyota A11708 and in Manual is listed as Type C). One of the best Original Equipment sound systems I've ever heard. When I use the radio's seek function it won't find any AM stations or produce any sound on manually tuned orpreprogrammed stations either. The FM, CD/Cassette all work fine. Anyone have any idea what the cause/fix might be...short of a new or junked radio replacement? Would just just a.m. tuner failure be likely?

Note that I was hoping that a new attenna mast for the powered attenna would solve the problem. The attenna only worked manually for years now), but after installing the new powered mast today, still no a.m. reception.

Car is about 11 1/4 years old with 104K....but still runs great and in generally good shape. Thanks in advance.

Try plugging in a Radio Shack cheap antenna directly to the radio and setting it up on the dashboard or even on the seat if you can't get it outside. That will tell you if the problem is the radio or not.

Short of replacing the entire radio I would check to see if the antenna was connected in the back of the radio. Another possibility is that the antenna is not correctly installed. The Rod that goes up and down is insulated from ground. With the radio off you should have infinite resistance from the Rod to the outer ring, which is the ground for the antenna. Measure this with an ohmmeter.

Another to do this is to plug a temporary antenna, none installed into the radio and see if it works.
