'03/04 4Runner Windshield Problem - weaker reinforcement?

Jan 13, 2004 6 Replies

Curious if other 2003/4 4Runner owners have experienced problems w/ moonroof & windshield cracking. Seems like the newer body of the

4Runner has weaker reinforcement for its windshield & moonroof. I recently received a crack to my '04 4Runner windshield and about 1/2 week later, the moonroof cracked. Now, I got a big replacement bill for this damage. If you have experience this problem yourself, could you share to see if warranty covered moonroof damage, and maybe cost for something like this.

Thanks.

No cracks here '03 14,000 miles.

Are you offroading?

Nope and I have had some big rocks hit it from driving on the Belt pkwy in NY C

No offroading, just driving in Pacific Northwest weather after a snow storm where lots of sand were dumped onto the roads. Have had lots of small rock hit previous car (sedan) & never any crack, but must have been very unlucky. Crack started expanding to about 3 inches now. A week later, moonroof cracked, started spreading & caved in. Not sure why, since it would seem hard to have any rocks hit the moonroof.

I was thinking the offroading stressing the body ala the past Nissan problem, and cracking the glass. Sounds very unusual, would take the issue up the chain to regional if need be.

No spontaneous crack, but got a doozy from a rock three days ago....crack now about 10inches long. '03 4runner Limited with automatic rear view mirrow. Anyone had experience with windshield replacement yet?

What does the automatic rearview mirror have to do with anything??? I have a 03 limited rocks have hit it no cracks yet im in NY
