Mechanic says I need a new brake plate. Truck has 16K miles. Dealer says not covered by warranty and will cost $950. Any suggestions?

Find another dealer. For $950 you can get an entire rear axle in a salvage yard and then some. How do you kill a brake plate anyway?.
You dusted a brake plate *AND* a clutch disk in 16k?
