How many miles on it before it died?
Oh, sorry, I intended to mention that - only 130K miles. Very sad, like I said, the big end bearing surfaces looked pristine and there wasn't a ring land notch yet on the other cylinder walls. Besides the destroyed piston/cylinder, the engine looked terrific. The condition of the big end bearings on the affected cylinder suggest good bore / crank alignment. The head gasket leak (taken care of by recall) 60K miles ago didn't make it into that cylinder, only a minor external coolant leak occurred. I babied the truck for the first 6/7 years, only using it for excursions while using my '76 Corolla to commute (270K before I donated it still running fine). The last few years I have put on the majority of miles, most long distance to the mountains (SJ to Sierras) and several times to Baja - all the way to Cabo, etc. Good thing it didn't go out in some of the "places" I visited not that long ago! I maintained 'Lil Blue religously, it was pretty much stock, and used offroad a significant amount but nothing too strenuous. Oh well. My next truck will most likely be a Taco with the newer V6. Other sad thing is the "new" rebuilt engine isn't any peppier than the old one with 130K miles for whatever that's worth. Greg
