1999 tacoma with weight distributing hitch.

I have read some posts in this group that recommend using a "weight distributing hitch" with a 1999 tacoma. Yet, the manual says that a "weight distributing hitch" is not recommended.

Why wouldn't toyota recommend the "weight distributing hitch"? My guess is that an extra few hundred pound tongue weight would be a GOOD thing because it would help keep the back end of the truck from sliding around. Thanks for your insights.

In my humble opinion. a trailer that benefits from such a hitch is far too heavy for a Tacoma. If the trailer actually fits the Tacoma properly, it will not present the issues that a weight distributing hitch is used to correct.

I'm not sure that is the reason Toyata says that a weight distributing hitch is not recommended, but that's the reason I would not attempt to drag a trailer that needs such a hitch.
