I get my tires at Active Green+Ross. The road hazard warranty they offer are pro-rated based on treadwear, not time. If 50% of the treadlife remains when you get a puncture, you get a 50% discount on the replacement tire. If 25% of the treadlife remains, you get a 25% discount on the replacement, and so on.
And in the "real world", sometimes that DOES happen.
And I've only TWICE in 42 years and several million miles, had a tire fail due to "road hazard" - Driving mostly in Ontario -
One of those was an almost bald snow tire that took a cinder in Iowa.
Unfortunately here in NJ we have mostly potholes instead of roads, this allows all the debris (mostly big f'in nails) to fall off the bouncing contractors truck in front to perfectly position itself to puncture your tire. JC
Think about it !! You want your best tires on the rear and the bad ones on the front. Should you have any tire problems you can control any skid best if the problem is with the tire on the front.
idiot.
This appears to be a joke.
Don't know about the res to f you guys - but I'd ALWAYS have the best tires on the front - particularly on a fromt drive car. ALL the steering, majority of the brking, as well as the drive depend on the FRONT tires. One "caster" on the back is all that is REALLY required.
never underestimate the power of human stupidity.
any tireshop, manufacturer and human being with an iq larger than it's shoe size knows this to be true. congratualations, you are not a moron.
snipped-for-privacy@webtv.net (Herb Eneva) found these unused words:
Please do not come where I live ... I'd like not to have to pick up your remains!
The reason for having the same tire pattern and tread depth is so you don't damage your differential gears.
that's bullshit.
Not bullshit. Mabee a bit paranoid - it takes more than just a LITTLE bit of wear to damage a diff - but the 4runner diff IS a weak point, so not a good idea to stress it unnecessarily.
i can't find any real proof to back that up. lot's of opinion's but no empirical stuff. hard to reconcile empirical proof with ontological skepticism, not to be too dumb about it.
Talk to any toyota dealer - or try to buy a good used 4-runner diff. They ARE a weak point. Not saying they are BAD - but one of the higher rate of failure parts on a darn good little vehicle. Tire size difference WILL contribute to differential failure.
got one in the family. he sez bullshit unless the tires are missmatched sizes.
He can say bullshit all he likes. I was a Toyota service manager for
10 years and they had the problem then already. Try to buy a good used diff.As for mismatched sizes, exactly what do you think you have with a brand new tire on one side and a half worn tire on the other????
toyota differentials are not shit. even 4 frunners.
Nobody said they were - just they are , as I said: "They ARE a weak point. Not saying they are BAD - but one of the higher rate of failure parts on a darn good little vehicle."
By the time most 4 runners are scrapped, the diff is pretty much done
- and the ones that are scrapped due to damage have their diffs salvaged quite quickly.
