'88 HJ60 Automatic 330'km - what to check?

For the tranny I would check the fluid for proper level, color and odor. It should be clean and not smell burnt. Also take for a ride and see how it shifts. I would not overhaul it unless it had a problem.

For the rest of the vehicle just look it over real well. I would check all the fluids to see if the are at the proper level and whether they need changing. You should check the steering linkage, ball joints, u-joints, brake lines, suspension, etc... for any worn or broken parts. Also, look under the vehicle for any major fluid leaks. Be sure to check the 4 wheel drive on the road test to make sure it is working properly. Try to drive it with the transfer case in every possible position.

I think I'll check the tranny as you recommend and fill up with fresh oil plus filter, just to be sure.
