Without the fan on there is no air circulation.
Oh, but there is
Sure there is. I open my windows in my house at nigh, air moves all on its own. Did you know cooler air is always trying to swap places with warmer air?
Yes, hot air rises. But it needs some where to go. If you open your window it will go out. But it is also coming there as well. You also need the effects of drafting as in your chimeny. If it is to low you won't get good draw. I don't think that the vent set to out side air, with its intake up high and the ducting winding around under the dash, is going to provide significantly more air flow than you are getting with the window cracked.
Agreed, but it IS vented.
